red wine

enough

Black fingernails, red wine.
I wanna make you, all mine.
A lot of people, underground,
you wanna get there
you gotta go straight down

"Nothing more excellent or valuable than wine
was ever granted by the Gods to man."

Plato

Tonight I am mesmerised, transfixed by a dark, almost black cherry liquid pouring out into my glass, the scent of blackberries, earth and a subtle whiff of grilled meat filling my nostrils.
There are notes of chocolate and deep deep berry spices that fill my head.

Further investigation reveals a lingering velvety mouthfeel of dried cherry flavors, black licorice, and a definite richness on the palate.

Two glasses later, my mouth is thick and full with flavour, my tongue is enveloped with shrivelly fruit flavors coupled to coffee and vanilla accents, sharp edges have softened and my head is swimming with carmine desire, my body rich and ready for exploration and devastation.
My body sways to tunes unheard, my lips forming words, spoken unheard, my head swimming, a swirling whirlpool of ideas and fantasies unsaid.

glass of red

Red wine embodies all that is suggestive
and sexual in a beverage. Dark, deep and rich, it is flavoursome and flagrant, filled with the baritone of bellissma and boldly brazen berry. Filling the mouth with the dark and redolent primeval flavours of the earth, it celebrates the ancient with memory of rituals and dark glory, intoxicating and enthralling.

Whatever else could be so decadent, darling and delicious?

Oh, red wine, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways..

Antioxidants..
Polyphenols...
Mouth feel...yes
Body feel...yes
Soul feel ...yes, yes, yes

So what is your poison? (We all have one...)

I try to limit mine to two a day...

of that poison, anyway...

Red, red wine...stay close to me..ee...ee...

I've had to mostly curtail the drinking of red wine, the histamines are deadly to an allergy addled girl such as myself. I've turned to dry white wine, managing to find a joy in the more subtle yet still complex flavors that can be discovered in a good white wine. I still, on occasion, enjoy a decadent glass of the red. It's far more sinful.

Two glasses a night sounds perfect.

I suppose it has assumed almost medicinal status for me, the red wine...
That's my excuse anyway!!

I was a white wine drinker once, but found my reactions to it increasingly negative - my mood would become vile and the headaches were awful.
Red wine is not only more satisfying on my palate, it leaves me feeling better, not worse...always a good thing...
Having said that, there is nothing more refreshing on a hot day than a chilled glass of semillon blanc...

or a frosty beer...

Cheers!

Delicious post, Minx. My grandfather makes wine all year around from all sorts of tasty fruit concoctions...the best is a gorgeous deep pink plum wine. Totally decadent, completely smooth, and highly intoxicating...

Next time you're in the Lou we can don our boas and throw back a bottle or six.

Oh that sounds positively dangerous!

And I'm all up for it.

I think I am besotted with Shiraz.
I love it's deep, dark boldness, it's meaty muscle.
Merlot is as alluring, with its more subtle yet sexy suggestion of musculature..grrrowwwwllll...
I love fruity concoctions with their sweet deception! Such a cruel delusion it is...

I just love wine.
I think I am in danger of becoming a proper lush!!

Bottoms up!!

Oh Eddie,

I love beer too!!
Especially on a hot day, after doing something taxing...like walking to the fridge...
